Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

1. What is a 3D/4D prenatal ultrasound?

This is an experience unlike any other.  You will be able to have a one on one bonding experience with your unborn child.  We will show you the baby move, yawn, smile and even stick it's tongue out!  This can show you the baby's facial features and you can see who's nose or chin it has!  However this exam does NOT replace the scan done at the doctor's office.  This is a completely elective exam and does not screen for fetal abnormalities, due date or any other pregnancy complications.

2. At what stage of my pregnancy should I visit Baby Reflections?

The best and cutest facial images will be obtained during  the 26th – 32nd week of pregnancy.  If you are expecting twins, you should schedule your appointment around the 26th week, as twins have less room for movement.

*Gender Determination can be done around week 18 of pregnancy

3. Do I have to schedule my appointment several weeks ahead of time?

It is best to call at least two weeks in advance.

4. Will the images always be clear and what determines the quality of the images?

At Baby Reflections we will do our very best to always get the best pictures possible for you.  However, several factors determine the quality of the images.  The most important is the position of your baby.  Other considerations are the amount of amniotic fluid (more is better) and the amount of tissue between the probe and the baby.  If this ever becomes a problem at the appointment we will be more that happy to try again on another day so that you can be satisfied with the experience.

5. Am I allowed to bring family/friends to the appointment?

Absolutely!  In fact, we encourage you to bring family or friends to the appointment.  We want this to be a special time for you and your family.  The exam rooms are set up to accommodate visitors.

6. How long will the appointment take?

The time is dependant on the type of exam package chosen.  On average the  appointment is around 30 minutes.  However, if we are unable to obtain clear images because of the baby’s position, you may need to allow additional time.   In any case, you will be given ample time with the technician to make sure you get the best results possible.

7. What kind of ultrasound machine will you be using?

We use the state of the art, GE Logic Pro P6.   This machine provides clear, moving 3D and 4D images of your baby.   For more information on the machine, go to www.gehealthcare.com.

8. Is this type of ultrasound cover by my insurance?

Unfortunately, no.  Since this is an elective procedure the will not cover the expense.  We accept cash only but no personal checks, credit or debit cards.

9. Is this a safe exam and are there any risks to me or my baby?

Ectensive research has shown that ultrasound does not have have any related risk of harm to you or your baby.  It utilizes sound waves in order to create an image on the screen.  3D/4D images are created the same way as convential 2D images using the same frequency probe.

10. Will I have to pay if I am not satisfied with my visit?

We will never want a customer to leave the appointment disapointed.  We always strive to make the experience the best possible and if the baby's position hinders that we will always bring you back in at another date to try again.

11. Who will be performing my 3D/4D scan?

All of our technologists are board certified by ARDMS and have been performing all types of ultrasounds including the specialty of 3D/4D for many years.
